PwC’s 2019 talent trends report

PwC’s 2019 talent trends report

This year’s 22nd CEO annual PricewaterhouseCoopers’ global talent trends survey reveals that top executives are increasingly worried about the impact their companies, strategies and activities will have on the environment, local communities and their employees.

Against this background, one somewhat intractable challenge is beginning to stand out: the size and composition of the workforce. Automation brings with it the promise of improved productivity and higher profits, but at what cost to employment and, by extension, to society? What responsibility do corporations have to reskill employees who otherwise would be displaced by technology and what value does reskilling offer an organization?

The new report, Talent Trends: upskilling for a digital world looks at the dilemma facing CEOs and their HR teams in today’s environment and how their businesses can stay ahead. Some of the key findings were:

  • 46% of CEOs’ first priority is reskilling their current workers
  • These concerns are stifling innovation and raising workforce costs
  • 79% of CEOs worry about the availability of key skills, which a ‘top 3’ concern
  • Roughly 70% believe lack of data to inform workforce improvement strategies is still an issue
  • 55% of business leaders haven’t created a clear narrative about the future of their workforce and automation
