Hailing from the vibrant streets of Beirut to Shanghai’s bustling thoroughfares, chef Chadi Karam’s expertise has played a pivotal role in securing a second consecutive Michelin star for Le Comptoir de Pierre Gagnaire.
From his early years, chef Chadi Karam’s passion for pastry set in motion a culinary journey. Driven by his love for pastry, he perfected his skills at “Le Notre Paris” and various distinguished training centers. Beginning his professional career at Le Vendome Intercontinental Hotel, he developed his craft under the guidance of chef Charles Azar. Transitioning to the role of pastry chef, he directed the opening and development of the brand “Lily’s” in downtown Beirut. This marked the inception of his global culinary influence. The journey continued in the Maldives, where he assumed the position of pastry chef at Cheval Blanc. Currently, serving as the executive pastry chef at Le Comptoir de Pierre Gagnaire, he has achieved a significant milestone.
In an exclusive talk with Hospitality News ME, Karam stated: “I am proud to have helped secure the prestigious one Michelin star for the restaurant for the second consecutive year. My culinary prowess was honed through collaborations with esteemed chefs like Charles Azar, Lionel Pelle and Yannick Alleno. In addition to my contributions to luxury brands such as Four Seasons, Intercontinental, Relais et Desserts International and Cheval Blanc. All of this has contributed to the accolade. Adding to the celebration, the distinguished three Michelin-starred Chef Pierre Gagnaire has extended a personal invitation, offering me the opportunity to lead the pastry team at his enchanting restaurant and bakery in the heart of the Capella Hotel, situated in the vibrant and dynamic city of Shanghai. This exciting collaboration promises a harmonious blend of talent and innovation, further enriching Shanghai’s culinary landscape.”
