Nadine Al Bulushi

Nadine Al Bulushi is the first Omani woman to be appointed general manager of a hotel in the country. We caught up with her at Kempinski Hotel Muscat, where she is leading the team.

What does it mean to you to be the first Omani woman to hold the position of hotel general manager?

This appointment marks a crucial step toward a future where gender no longer limits leadership, in line with the Omanization law. I am humbled to contribute to this progress, and I hope it inspires other women to pursue career aspirations. While honored to be the first, my goal is to inspire women to excel both personally and professionally. Furthermore, I believe women shouldn’t have to choose between their personal and professional lives. Moreover, if I can inspire young Omani women leaders to enter the industry and have it all, I would consider this a significant achievement. Consequently, by breaking these boundaries, we pave the way for greater gender equality and empower future generations of women to pursue their aspirations with confidence.

As a female leader within a traditionally male-dominated industry, what challenges have you encountered in your career and how have you overcome them?

There might be challenges such as navigating traditional expectations or overcoming unconscious biases. However, success is rarely achieved in isolation. I am incredibly grateful for the unwavering support and mentorship I have received from colleagues and leaders, regardless of gender. By embracing challenges as opportunities for growth, I believe women can navigate obstacles with resilience, dedication and work ethic. Through this, they can achieve their career aspirations. Additionally, I am committed to breaking down barriers and inspiring future generations of women to pursue leadership roles, particularly in the hospitality industry.

Your promotion highlights Kempinski’s commitment to diversity and inclusivity. How important is it for you to serve as a role model for other women in the hospitality industry?

Kempinski’s commitment to diversity and inclusivity is truly commendable, and I am proud to be part of it. It is an honor to work for an organization that values and supports the advancement of women in leadership roles. Moreover, serving as a role model for other women in the hospitality industry is something that truly matters to me. Also, I believe it’s essential to show that women can excel at the highest levels within this industry. By breaking barriers and achieving success, I aim to inspire other women to pursue their career goals with confidence and determination. Furthermore, fostering a supportive environment helps create a more diverse, dynamic hospitality industry that benefits everyone.

What are your plans for the property?

My vision for Kempinski Hotel Muscat is to solidify its position as the leading luxury hotel in Oman. At the same time, I aim to enhance its contribution to the local community. We will continue focusing on merging Kempinski’s renowned values of impeccable service with European flair and refined elegance. Additionally, we will integrate Oman’s warm hospitality and rich cultural heritage, which is closest to my heart. These goals can only be achieved through the unwavering support and dedication of our incredible team. Therefore, I am deeply grateful for their resilience and commitment. I am confident that, together, we will elevate Kempinski Hotel Muscat to new heights.
