Jamil Chehab - owner Carpigiani

Jamil Chehab, owner of Chehab for Trading, has been specializing in ice-cream equipment for an impressive 35 years. As the Carpigiani distributor in Lebanon, he tells us more about the brand and what it brings to the market.

What can you tell us about Carpigiani and its significance in the industry?

Founded in Bologna in 1946, Carpigiani is today the world’s market leader in manufacturing machines for artisanal gelato. Furthermore, Carpigiani is a significant player in the global frozen desserts industry. Since 1989, Carpigiani has been part of Ali Group, a diverse global leader in foodservice equipment. In Lebanon, Carpigiani is represented by Chehab for Trading, specializing in the soft-serve ice cream and gelato business. Importantly, our main focus is on after-sales service, ensuring a first-time fix policy for customers.

How have Carpigiani machines helped businesses improve their operations?

One of the growing trends in Lebanon is definitely soft-serve ice cream, which is rapidly spreading within the market. Consequently, this trend is also reflected in our sales department’s activities. Additionally, Carpigiani is responding to this demand by offering a unique image in terms of food style. This image appeals to the end user and allows machine owners to create a rich menu, increasing sales. Moreover, this ensures customer satisfaction. Importantly, soft-serve ice cream is not just the classic vanilla and chocolate but has become a complete concept. It can adapt to many locations and different types of businesses, making it versatile and appealing.

How would you describe the ice-cream market in Lebanon?

Even during the economic crisis, ice-cream sales were not affected because the low price for one serving is accessible to anyone. Consequently, this business was not significantly impacted and successfully overcame the crisis. Additionally, Lebanon’s warm weather helps a great deal when it comes to selling ice cream.

Are there any new releases you can share?

Being a market leader and aware of the environmental challenges, Carpigiani is developing new technologies to make machines greener. Furthermore, in Lebanon, the focus on sustainability is gradually increasing, and Carpigiani perfectly meets this new market demand. Consequently, in the future, we will offer machines more focused on green technology with reduced energy consumption.
