Imad Akil’s significant career milestone was being assigned to launch Centro Mada, Amman’s first Centro hotel. Here, the charismatic general manager shares how he is impacting the Jordanian community through key CSR initiatives.
What have been the highlights of 2024?
Business got off to a sluggish start this year, primarily due to decreased international travel to the region. Although Jordan remains a safe destination, there was reduced demand from international markets during Q1 and Q2. However, the summer exceeded expectations, with Amman emerging as a top choice for GCC nationals. In fact, the summer season of 2024 recorded a higher volume than that of 2023. The city is set to welcome a large number of tourists next summer. Its rich culture, food and Jordanian hospitality shine brightly, attracting a diverse range of travelers every year.
How does Centro Amman’s initiatives align with the company’s culture and values?
At Centro Amman, we proudly uphold our brand promise of providing “treasured time” to all guests and stakeholders. This year, we successfully implemented 10 impactful CSR initiatives, addressing various community needs and making a positive difference. These initiatives focus on animal welfare, local produce promotion and sponsoring medical treatment for children with cerebral palsy. Moreover, they include training and employing individuals with Down syndrome, along with refurbishing and maintaining a public school in the community. Additionally, we have contributed through tree planting, blood donations and many other meaningful projects benefiting people and the planet. These efforts align with Rotana’s core priorities of supporting both people and the planet.
How does the hotel’s leadership contribute to the development of its team members?
We start by hiring based on character, allowing employees to be their authentic selves rather than following robotic training methods. Instead of rigid policies, we prefer using the term “guide” to focus on what makes sense for our team. Our training approach is fun, uplifting and interactive, avoiding traditional PowerPoint presentations and classroom-style sessions altogether. To foster connection and growth, we have established an open-door policy that encourages collaboration among staff members. Additionally, we introduced Rise, an online learning app designed to offer modern, flexible and accessible learning experiences for our team. Furthermore, we support colleagues with autism, Down syndrome and learning difficulties through specialized training methods. Certified trainers, international collaborations and a quota system ensure representation and inclusion within our organization.
What are your plans for the Centro Amman?
My plans involve create a distinctive and memorable experience for both our guests and colleagues by showcasing the unique qualities of Centro Amman. Our spaces reflect a chic, modern aesthetic that balances style and comfort, blending elegance with relaxation to enhance our guests’ adventures and moments of rest. Every moment counts! We curate fun and engaging experiences that spark joy, from lively events to one-of-a-kind local excursions. At Centro Amman, every day guests are invited to explore, connect and enjoy their time with us. Diversity enriches our community, and we proudly celebrate individuality, ensuring everyone feels welcomed and valued, regardless of their background. Our doors are open to all who seek connection and comfort.
