Dani Demerjian, cluster general manager of InterContinental Abu Dhabi and InterContinental Residences Abu Dhabi, discusses the hospitality landscape and his plans for the InterContinental Abu Dhabi properties.
What are your plans for the property?
My plans are to offer sophisticated and stylish residences with the help of my dedicated management team who deliver the InterContinental service that the chain is known for. From concierge service and in-residence dining to all-day dining and other amazing F&B experiences, a lifestyle of luxury and privacy awaits all guests who choose to stay at this property.
How is the hospitality and tourism sector faring in the region?
International travel has started to bounce back to pre-pandemic levels, and we have started to witness an increase in demand, especially after the lifting of the Covid-19 restrictions.
What are the typical challenges faced by hotels in the Middle East/UAE?
The main challenge for the region and the world at large is to attract the right talents to work in the hospitality industry. We have noticed that Generation Z is interested in other industries in which they can have the option of flexible working, both in terms of hours and location.
What are the latest developments in the hospitality sector in 2023 and what are your predictions for the UAE hospitality industry’s performance this year?
The latest development is the focus on sustainability and responsible tourism. Consumers are actively seeking more sustainable modes of travel and selecting hotels that care about the environment. In addition, many travelers are combining business and pleasure by taking advantage of business trips, which they are extending to explore their surroundings, so our residences are a perfect option. The business outlook looks positive, especially with the return of guests from China.
