The Global Restaurant Investment Forum (GRIF), founded in the UAE, has officially celebrated its 10th anniversary.

Significantly, the event showcased the Middle East’s rising influence on the global restaurant industry and its growing impact worldwide. Held from October 7th to 8th, the event gathered chefs, investors, restaurateurs, and industry experts for engaging discussions. Notably, the focus was on the future of the F&B sector, fostering valuable insights through these candid exchanges.

Furthermore, in partnership with THINK Hospitality, GRIF 2024 adopted a refreshed format, spanning iconic venues across Edinburgh.

During the closing sessions, Artisan Drinks hosted cocktails, further enriching the overall experience for attendees. Additionally, the first day concluded with study tours of 16 local venues, showcasing Scottish hospitality alongside international peers. This thoughtful combination of activities highlighted the cultural exchange between the participants and local experts.

Key insights from GRIF

Notably, this year’s forum featured renowned voices from the restaurant industry, sharing strategies for navigating today’s dynamic market. For instance, Nicolas Budzynski, CEO of LPM Restaurant & Bar, revealed a significant 20 percent profit increase between 2019 and 2023. Furthermore, Kurt Zdesar of Chotto Matte emphasized the importance of localizing 30 percent of venue elements to connect with local cultures. Additionally, Roaya Saleh, founder of Villa Mamas, highlighted Bahrain’s operational advantages, underscoring the supportive environment for restaurant growth.

Moreover, the forum also showcased Lydia Forte from Rocco Forte Hotels, announcing plans for a new property in Dubai. Similarly, Luigi Battista of Leylaty Group highlighted Kuuru’s Riyadh location, which became the first Saudi restaurant in the World’s 50 Best list. This milestone emphasized the growing recognition of Saudi Arabia’s culinary contributions on the global stage, further cementing its influence.

Middle East takes the spotlight

Importantly, GRIF 2024 placed a strong emphasis on the Middle East’s burgeoning role in the global F&B sector. Through sessions focusing on adapting international strategies to Middle Eastern markets, industry leaders shared invaluable insights. Notably, the region’s growth has been characterized by innovation, adaptability, and a relentless commitment to culinary excellence.

Additionally, Dubai’s favorable visa policies were highlighted as a significant advantage for recruitment and attracting top talent. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia’s evolving dining preferences drove demand for unique culinary experiences, showcasing the region’s appetite for change. Finally, speakers underscored the importance of recruiting and retaining talent in these rapidly expanding markets, where competition remains fierce.
