Mark Brown GM of Royal Saray Resort

We chatted with Mark Brown, general manager of Royal Saray Resort, to obtain an insider’s perspective on Bahrain’s hospitality scene.

What are some of your career highlights?

I have been very blessed to experience a variety of countries and cultures, including the Middle East, Asia, Europe and North America. Each has been a highlight for different reasons, contributing to my diverse and enriching experiences globally. For example, being part of a team launching Southeast Asia’s largest nightlife entertainment venue was a significant highlight for me. Additionally, having “The Corsair’s Tale by Mark A. Brown” published — my first novel — was incredibly rewarding and fulfilling. Currently, with the rapid expansion of Sevens Holding and The Royal Saray, I find every day is a highlight. Moreover, designing our new concepts has been exceptionally exciting and gratifying.

How would you describe the hospitality industry in Bahrain?

Sevens Holding is leading the way by conceptualizing unique concepts while bringing the best brands to Bahrain, setting new standards. Meanwhile, the Bahraini market is always expanding with new developments happening constantly, reflecting a dynamic and growing industry. However, we don’t expand just to stay ahead; instead, we continuously challenge ourselves to innovate and excel. Moreover, our CEO, H.E. Shaikh Khalifa Bin Rashid Al Khalifa, is a visionary with an innate understanding of luxury and guest expectations. Consequently, we strive to personalize all our guests’ experiences, ensuring exceptional and memorable stays.

What are the key characteristics of tourists visiting Bahrain?

The Royal Saray, being a Seven Star Resort, attracts mainly leisure travelers, especially tourists from Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Additionally, we are seeing an increase in European visitors, which is broadening our guest demographics. Due to the unique nature of our property, we also host a significant number of Indian weddings, which are great fun. Bahrain’s tourism is largely fueled by Saudi guests and the Causeway, offering ease of access and travel. However, the variety of visitors is increasing, as Bahrain is welcoming and laid back, with lovely and friendly people. Therefore, I would certainly recommend anyone to visit and experience Bahrain’s charm.

What are your plans for the hotel?

This month sees the much-anticipated launch of phase two, where we have opened 10 mansions, thereby adding 100 extra rooms. Furthermore, each mansion has suites with a private pool, which can be taken individually or as a whole. Additionally, Al Massarah Pool, Bar and Restaurant is set to open in November, offering new luxury amenities. Moreover, the first Clarins Spa will also open in November, enhancing our wellness offerings for guests. In addition, Bahrain’s most luxurious Moroccan restaurant, Royal Marrakech, is due to open soon, offering exquisite dining experiences. Along with that, the rooftop lounge bar, Caesars, is set to open, adding more luxury to our property. Moreover, we are opening Mood, a very popular Dubai brand, which will definitely attract more visitors. The next six months will see The Royal Saray and Sevens Holding continue to develop, which is exciting. In summary, it is a very exciting time to be part of this magnificent company and witness its growth.
