The Chedi Hegra is slated to open in AlUla later this year, boasting 35 guest rooms connected to the Hegra landscape and three fine-dining restaurants, a cafe, spa and pool.
The project is the result of Royal Commission of AlUla partnership with GHM to bring the luxury hotel brand.
The upcoming hotel will be seamlessly integrated with a number of pre-existing structures, including the Hegra Fort, an old railway station, and surrounding buildings. The architects plan to preserve the structural and exterior walls of these buildings, some of which have mud-brick construction that carries historical significance, while blending in modern architectural elements. That being said, the majority of the UNESCO World Heritage Site will not be affected by the construction and will be meticulously preserved to maintain its historical and cultural value.
John Northen, the commission’s vice president of hotels and resorts, stated that “Sitting at the nexus of AlUla’s living museum, The Chedi Hegra embodies the fulfilment of our ‘Journey Through Time’ masterplan with its deep respect for heritage, sustainable design features, and an authentic luxury experience that celebrates what makes AlUla a special destination for travelers seeking both comfort and adventure.”
